About
Sonhita Chakraborty is a scientific illustrator based in Toronto. She helps researchers, journals, and institutions turn complex science into images that make people stop and look. Her work has appeared on the covers of Cell, Molecular Cell, and Genome Research.
Sonhita brings a scientist’s eye to every project. She holds a PhD in Plant Cell Biology, was a postdoctoral researcher at the Umeå Plant Science Centre, and worked as a Scientific Editor at Cell Press. That means she understands both the biology behind a figure and what makes a cover stand out to an editor. Today, she is a Scientific Editor and Writer at Life Science Editors.
Her style ranges from clean vector figures and graphical abstracts to painterly covers, watercolour, and mixed-media collage. For each project, she chooses the approach that best fits the science.
When she’s not illustrating, you’ll find her at the local library, biking around town, travelling to different corners of the world, and enjoying nature.
